The science of sports nutrition has four basic components - Fuelling, Refuelling, Repair and Recovery:

1. FUELLING - carbohydrates are vital to fuelling your muscles with the energy they need to get through an event or training session, in particular complex carbohydrates which can be found in wholegrain pasta, cereal or bread, oatmeal or dried fruit. DO: Thirty minutes before a working out use Formula 1 shake mixed with diluted fruit juice 30 minutes before exercise. This provides immediate fuel in the muscles (muscle glycogen)

2. REFUELLING - important during or after a workout. Herbalife ShapeWorksTM protein bars are a perfect, no fuss way to refuel your body's requirement for protein. 4. RECOVERY - athletes create a large build up of free radicals as a consequence of using oxygen to create energy. Finally, you can lose up to two litres of fluid an hour when exercising, especially in hot humid conditions. Drink plenty of water before you start exercising - at least two cups - followed by about half a cup every 20 minutes during exercising.
